I don't think his coins from his first two years bear dates.

They do not need to have actual dates, just have to be able to date them. If the undated ones are only from 488-489 then they would qualify, I would think.

Ok yes just to be clear, we are looking for coins which if not dated, then were first minted in the decade of the 480s but were not minted for more than 10 years (i.e. 488-497 AD would count). In a perhaps related development, one of those Kavad I drachms is now listed as sold.

One of the few holes I have in my quest is 482. A few more in the know than I have indicated it may not exist, that this decade was very sparse for minting. Maybe I get lucky?
My hoard of '82s is up to 159! 218 BC x 1, 118 BC x 3, 18 BC x 1, 82 x 1, 182 x 1, 282 x 2, 582 x 2, 682 x 1, 782 x 2, 882 x 1, 982 x 3, 1182 x 8, 1282 x 2, 1382 x 1, 1482 x 4, 1582 x 12, 1682 x 12, 1782 x 40, 1882 x 41, 1982 x 21

Very nice!
When others on this side of the world wake up, there will no doubt be great rejoicing in moving the thread forward after a 6 month hiatus!\

Congrats Paul! How's it feel to own perhaps the only coin in all of numismatics firmly attributable to the 480s?
