Opinions? (Now, with new, larger, slightly less yellow, pictures!) If anyone could explain why it misses the Full Bands designation, I'd appreciate it. Edited by MorePower 09/22/2007 1:04 pm

I'll go MS-64 on this one. I think it might be FB, but not entirely sure from the pic. It is at least close to FB. Mercs are one of my favorite series, and that's a nice one

I don't really have a grade for you but thought I would tell you that you may want to set the white balance on your camera to get that yellowish color off the coin

Good call. Auto white balance is usually pretty good on the camera, but it looks like it's a bit off this time.

MS64, from what I can tell from the picture it's not fb...close but not quit.

I agree with the majority, I feel this one is a MS-64, possibly FB.

I'll go AG-3.
Just kidding. I agree with the majority. Not quite FB but tantalizingly close.

The new pictures give me more faith that this is a full band coin, at least to my eyes.

There is a small darker spot on the bottom band right over the top of the middle rod in the fasces. I can not tell without being able to adjust the angle of the coin but that appears to be the spot where the bands touch. I like the very burst-like appearance of this one.
Thanks and nice pictures.

Jim,
Thanks for the info. That spot is (was) a bit of fluff from somewhere. The bands do not touch at that point.
The coin is really nice in-hand. That gold hue shown in the new pictures is pretty close to what the coin actually looks like.

I based my thought about FB on the very middle of the middle band.

Looking at your coin again, It looked like a FB to me. Maybe if you could take a clear and closer picture of the bands? I honestly can see it go both ways. When I quickly look at it, I see FB...but if I look at it carefully, I see some slight weakness? Maybe it's the pic?

MorePower,
I guess I should ask why you say it misses FSB. Did someone grade the coin for you? Sometimes if the bands are flat it might not pass. A strict FSB should have a completely separated set of rounded bands (at least in my experience). I can't get a feel for the dimension of the bands but if you say the spec was lint and the bands are slightly rounded I think it might go FSB.
I have some examples that I will try to post. With the help of some posters in the photography forum I am learning how to get close-ups with my camera.
Thanks,
Jim
