Have you checked any completed auctions on ebay?

P&D Keelboat are in the $6.00 range. The Bison P&D are available for about $5.50 as are the P&D Ocean in View. The ones to have are the Peace Medal rolls. The P goes for $19.00 and the D is about $12.00. I have some of each and wish I had the foresight to have bought more.

I would guess that not too many people saved them in rolls? Maybe the D had errors in it and therefore more people saved rolls and neglected to save Ps? Or maybe the Ps had errors in the and people opened them up looking for errors and few rolls were saved? Or maybe some other coin related item was being hoarded and the P got neglected? Or people were getting sick of them and didn't bother getting P's? Maybe it's similar to what happened with the mid 80's Washington quarters?

It certainly does not have to do with the production numbers. Here are the numbers for the 2004 coins:

The D mint Keelboat has the lowest mintage of the series. Maybe since the Peace Medal was first it did not get the roll hoarding attention that the others did?

When the Peace Medal rolls were first sold by the mint a large number of them were sold. I as at a show during the first weekend right after deliveries started. A LOT of people ordered those rolls because they thought they would be a good source for top quality coins. But at the show when the collectors and dealers started opening the rolls they found that they were VERY junky. At the beginning of the show the rolls were being quoted at $8 a roll. By the end of the show the dealers were breaking them open and putting them in their cash drawers because they couldn't move them at $2.40 a roll. A LOT of the rolls were destroyed in that fashion.

When the Buffalo came out in 2005 once again a lot of rolls were sold because of the popularity of the design. Most of these rolls were not opened because people were speculating on the ROLLS. But now that they were keeping those rolls, people decided to go back and pick up the rest of the roll sets. At that point the results of the destruction of the Peace Medal rolls became apparent. They were much less available than what their sales records would indicate and the prices for the rolls rose significantly.
