If anyone is interested,we should do some reserch on history,in library's on past ship wreck's,maybe 10 to 20 of us should, buy in $1000.00, and rent a boat with a under water detector for ship wreck's, if possible scubba dive down for treasure,if it's to deep, maybe we could rent, something like NEMO that the finder's of the u.s.s. central america used, I belive that we have just as much of a chance of finding a ship wreck as they did, then we could have bragging right's on coin community family ( YOU NEVER KNOW ) WHAT DO SOME OF YOU THINK ABOUT THIS ?

"You should only gamble as much as you can afford to lose." I'm afraid I can't afford to lose $1000 (even $100 makes me queasy). But I wish you luck! Post pics of what you recover!

that is exactly what I was going to say, I have heard of many people going broke trying to find these ships. I know the ones that do find them are greatly publicized and glorified but the ones that lose everything you never hear of and allot of the times its where they left off that the others start from and find something. Most of the people I have seen actually be able to find something are sponsored by some other companies including the money they have put in themselves, but if someone has an extra million dollars that is just scratching their back from being in their wallet then this may be a good thing for them to do but someone like me that needs every penny they have wouldn't be able to do such an endeavor

I don't think $20,000 would be enough to get the boat out of the harbor, let along the other expenses.

It's nice to dream isn't it? Where do we begin...

1) Funding - it's going to take lots of money
2) Finding a shipwreck that hasn't been searched already
3) Finding a shipwreck that has anything worth recovering
4) Finding a shipwreck that isn't in territorial waters and can LEGALLY be recovered

That's just for starters.......

Yea, pull together a few million and you might be able to get started. There's a lot of people/companies doing this for profit. It's ungodly expensive and time consuming.

You have a better chance of winning the lottery, than profiting off of a shipwreck.

This reminds me of a story about my dad. Back when he and mom were retired and traveling, They motorhomed a lot in florida. My dad liked to go to museums and see old stuff from the ships. He was in one of those one day when he got to talking with a gentleman who was trying to get some investors to put up $10,000 dollars each for hunting a wreck he said he thought he had located...

Now, my dad was financially able to swing it, but it would be a lot of money to even him. He politely told the gentleman he would rather keep his money in a CD.

We heard later the guy did ok in his find, and the investors did pretty good also.

The wreck: The Atocha

The man: Yep, Mel Fisher

I gave the old man flak about that one until the day he died.....

I don't think $1,000 dollars would be enough. Then time it would take to just find the shipwreck would probably take years. It would probably cost $20,000 to just rent a ship with sonar capabilities for an afternoon. I think your figure would have to be more accurate if it was $100,000 per person. Now if we all could afford to give that much up, we wouldn't really be interested in finding treasures, right?
