A fellow at work came over to my cube today to show me a 1941 nickel he had gotten in change that he was delighted with, and that started us talking about coins, and he went on to say he had a complete collection of Morgans he put together a number of years ago. "They're not all BU," he said, "but they're all nice and shiny -- I polished them myself." He wanted to tell me what method he had used, but I refused to listen. Oh, well. I'm glad he liked the nickel. Jan

But anyway, I was enjoying your story, Jan, and then I got to the end and literally cringed. I kinda feel bad for him.

Can I painfully torture you with this coin? A beautiful proof coin: And another coin but ended up in a miserable state: And it's a low mintage of 35,000.

I myself would have asked how he polished them. Now since to late recommend he also tip them in some battery acid to get rid of any dirt or finger prints. If he looked like he was believing me, I then would have told him what he did. Who knows, that may have helped in a possible future cleaning of other coins.

If he had a complete collection, he destroyed a lot of rare coins. Tell him that he destroyed them and you'll offer him face value for them. lol

heheheh, sounds like there's one of those everywhere.
On the up side he probably loved his nice shiny Morgans as much as any other collector loves theirs.

ooh, shiny Morgan dollars. Look kids, do you want to play with them? Here's an interesting one, it has a CC on the back.

You guys are all pretty funny. One of these days I'll screw up my courage to ask the guy just how "complete" this collection of Morgans is. I'm hoping there's one from every year, period. Jan

If in fact they are all Morgans, they are then Silver and since Silver is a great condutor, you could use a hammer, flatten them and make fine Silver Wire. Or just drill holes in them, run chains though the holes amd make a great neclace. If shinny enough they would make great targets. You throw them up into the air and shoot at them like in the old West. And if you have a large clock, you could glue each one to a place where there is a number and then paint that number on them.

Carl would you even do that to a 1889-CC? He said that he had a complete collection of them and even though they're polished, some of the coins there still have some worth to it. But for the common dates, I think a Morgan clock would be cool as hell.
