I didn't have a chance to read the article but there was something about new legislation concerning circulating the Sac dollars again. Anybody get this issue? Could you sum up what the article said? It was the December 2007 issue I was going to buy the magazine but the lines were crazy long today. Edited by TheForce 11/23/2007 9:12 pm

The article is titled Reversing the course of the goilden Dollar .
In a nut shell
On sept 4 th congress passed and sent to President Bush a bill requiring a new design each year for the reverse of the dollar coin .
The bill directs that the obverse continue to depict an image of sacagawea and to replace the Reverse of the coin each year with other series commemorating the achievements of other Indians and indian tribes .

The bill also lowers the mintage requirement for Sac's from 1/3 of presidential coin mintage to 20% of the pres. mintage. No more sac's to be minted this year and only 7-8 million next year . It also does NOT specifically say how long it will go on for...The article only says the new legislation specifies there is to be a new reverse every year they strike a dollar coin starting in 2009.Hmmmm

I sort of like the idea of changing the reverses. And yet, I think the current one is very attractive.

Here's hoping they do better than they have been on the artwork of our coinage lately, that Wyoming quarter with its flat plain design takes the cake for me thus far in the State Quarter fiasco, and there are others in the YUK line too ! I like the changing reverses ,and welcome any changes in our coinage - but I think the biggest reason these things are all coming about is the Almighty dollar. The government stands to make billions from collectors pockets , I for one am getting fed up with the amount of money I spend just trying to keep up with modern coinage. I know I don't HAVE to do it, but as a collector I try for complete sets.

It seems odd to me that they are changing the reverse of the coin (the only part that I even remotely like) about the coin to start with .
If they want to honor other Native Americans why not change the effigy on the obverse ,, I could maybe get excited about a coin with a bust of sitting bull or geronimo on it .

You can thank the good citizens of Wyoming for that one- they voted on it. I can't really blame them considering it is the state symbol. You will find that image on everything in Wyoming from the vehicle license plates to the University of Wyoming logo. http://soswy.state.wy.us/bucking/bucking.htm

Absolutely! And Chief Joseph, Osceola, or Tecumseh to add a few... quote: No more sac's to be minted this year
So, will there or will there not be 2008 Sacagawea dollars? I am finding a lot of conflicting information on this.

I have to say that it is a shame they are changing the reverse for the Sac. I think the current reverse with the "Eagle in Flight" is truly beautiful and for me rates in the top 10 of coin designs. Or at least top 10 "Eagle" designs.

The reverse just might be the best looking reverse on any circulating(and I say that loosely) coin in recent memory. The obverse however could use some work. Its not like the front is disgusting or revolting or anything, but compared with the back it kind of brings the coin down a notch or two. I hope they end up releasign the 2008 real late in the year (say October). That way, we can all pick one up and avoid the hole in the books and also have a nice, rare modern coin. It would make for an interesting little story to tell grandkids one day about the loopholes in the law, conflicting rumors, delayed orders, and a design change the in the making. One can only hope --Gary
