This is supposed to be an ancient coin know as the Athens Owl, outwardly it looks genuine, but I can't be sure from just the picture. Can you provide a size and weight of the piece and a picture of the edge?

I'm also going to move this over to the Ancient coin section for more help.

Wow...this must be what it looks like if an owl ever mates with a mosquito...

It's a known modern fake. See below from Forvm's Fake Coin Reports:

Athens-Attica
Modern cast fake in extremely poor style attempting to copy a AR tetradrachm of Athens, Attica, 4th century BC, but failing in the attempt. Obv. is supposed to be Athena, helmeted, r.; rev. is supposed to be an owl, facing.

No, that's not Freddie, it's the type of replica I like to call the "Edvard Munch owl". Do a forum search for "Edvard owl" and you'll find numerous examples of this very same mass-produced replica, where I've called it that.

In one of those old threads, a postal worker (?) reported finding one in a "tub of outgoing mail". Presumably, it was part of a Reader's-Digest-style mass-mailout.

Sap, I said "Freddy Krueger" because if I had said "Carmen de Mairena" no one was going to know what I wanted to say...
