I use the site exclusively for Ptolemy coins and it is quite amazing. Was down yesterday and today still service unavailable. Hate to see this gone from the web God forbid. http://ptolemybronze.com/

John; Do you think Wolf's site is down now for good? That last capture by the way back machine was 6 months ago which I would think is not normal, it should have been crawled since then by the system and captured. Plus looking at linked in his other sites for his business are down as well. His facebook page has not been updated in the same 6 months etc. I hope the gentleman is OK. https://www.linkedin.com/in/daniel-wolf-09956810https://independent.academia.edu/danielwolf

I sure hope it's temporary. I was on the site about a week ago, so it hasn't been down long.
On a related issue, I've been unable to access the gallery section and search function at Asiaminorcoins for weeks, or maybe months. Don't know if the issue is theirs or mine. But I sure miss being able to use that site.

Once again it seems gathering important information on the internet is such a transitory thing subject to so many factors. Knowledge in Academia is forever searchable. But this internet local knowledge collection is more like having a brilliant elderly friend you can ask questions of until one day they are suddenly gone.

Bob;
Well on the asiaminorcoins issue, this is quite the error message to get and so I get it as well. --->"Coppermine critical error: Unable to connect to database !"<---

Yep, that's the message I've been getting for weeks. When working, it's such a helpful database for coins from that region. I hope functionality is restored soon.

OK I called Daniel Wolf and he had no idea all of this company and private sites were down. So he is contacting godaddy and plans to be all back up. Great to hear!

Jay; Once you look over the Ptolemy, the hundreds of years of very close coins, you will see why I think a person can spend a life in just those as getting them all correct for year and attribution is quite a challenge. And I am sure that field and attributions will change in your lifetime as assumptions are made to make the timeline. I always say you can get a doctorate in just Ptolemy coinage. Maybe just download some of Daniel Wolf's papers below to see the complexity of it all and get started. When I go through lots to sell and I want to ID coins but only spend 5-10 minutes on a coin as I have a full time job teaching and already am into the coins 3 hours a night, my stress grows when I see I have a Ptolemy that is just worn enough to not be obvious. I know I'll get it wrong and be corrected as I often am by buyers. https://independent.academia.edu/danielwolf
