This 1900 gold double Eagle has been in my safe for number years. On the reverse is a cloudy stripe that goes straight across the middle of this coin.
Could it be a chemical reaction with the rubber band? Adhesive tape? The finish does not feel sticky.
I have never had a coin graded professionally and I wonder if this coin could still be graded considering the damage on the back?
I would also like to ask the members if they think this coin has been polished? Besides the stripe on the reverse, It does not seem to have any heavy scratching, dings or wear. Definitley uncirculated.
