What Happened To Reverse Of 1900 Gold Double Eagle? ?

LLy22g New Member United States 1 Posts	Posted 06/04/2015 2:27 pm This 1900 gold double Eagle has been in my safe for number years. On the reverse is a cloudy stripe that goes straight across the middle of this coin. Could it be a chemical reaction with the rubber band? Adhesive tape? The finish does not feel sticky. I have never had a coin graded professionally and I wonder if this coin could still be graded considering the damage on the back? I would also like to ask the members if they think this coin has been polished? Besides the stripe on the reverse, It does not seem to have any heavy scratching, dings or wear. I do not think it is from tape.Why would one tape coins with this value? Sorry IGE this one is hard for me to believe but crazy things happen. Do you remember how it was stored in your safe?
