Whether it is 85% sold out at the RCM or 100% is immaterial if other dealers or ebay have it for issue. 15.000 is way too high mintage. Pass.

No doubts, that first in "something" will go good.
First Snowflake, first Glass creature, first GITD, first Gold Superman, first Tribute (Penny Farewell) set...they all popular and hold the value above issue.
So here we also have "first Maple Leaf-shaped coin", could go very well on the secondary market.

There have been many other "firsts" from the RCM that have been flops,I don't see this being much better , 15000 mintage is too high. Although it is "different" since its not a normal round coin, eh maybe 5000 mintage would have been more desirable.

I would've bought it if the mintage was 5,000 or less.

Practically every month, they have a "first". Here is the description of last months astronomy coin: "A WORLD FIRST! Each glow-in-the-dark coin is made UNIQUE with its own piece of art!" The astronomy coin has only 8500 mintage but it is still a flop. With 15,000 mintage, the Maple Leaf shaped coin is guaranteed to be a flop.

Well, my thought was, that since the coin commissioned by Europe, not many coins will left for North America market. Together with this, I do not collect "popular by someone coins", so wouldn't touch it even with mintage 1.000 . It will be good for re-sale only, imo. There are many coins with limited mintage (1K and below), but they just nothing - design, importance - they do not have them. The same this one, looks like " RCM PR person" pin, and not the coin.

I'm getting picky with my purchases, only buying coins that appeal to me and have a low mintage. If a coin doesn't have those two things, then I have no interest in buying it :)

Is it just me or have other thought this too, could it that RCM announce that to make people think it's a hot item to make collector. Buy a coin they may have not of consider buying? How accurate is that 85% ? Is the 85% based on the total mintage or just what is in stock on the shelves ? I was told that the RCM when it mints a new coin it does not run the total mintage off all at once. The RCM will mint maybe half and when the stock get's low it OK's another batch to be made. If the pre-order is strong I can see the whole mintage being run all at once. Like to hear what other member thoughts are on this

This one just doesn't pass the smell test. Per the Mint's description, one would believe that the RCM created this 'coin' and that this is the most Canadian product ever created. Yet, it's been widely reported that this piece was actually created in Europe by Modern Numismatics International. http://agaunews.com/a-new-twist-on-...nching-soon/The RCM doesn't seem to mention MNI in their advertising and sales pitch. So who actually "created" this piece and who really has the majority of the mintage? It's not even scheduled for official release by MNI until August 11th. My guess? MNI have more of these to sell than the RCM. The RCM might be 85% sold out but that is not 85% of 15k. It's 85% of the few thousand that they had for sale. Or if it is 85% of 15k, that includes the many thousands that they "sold" to MNI. And yes, claiming 85% sold out is nothing but a marketing ploy. I think that this piece is interesting but not as a coin for my collection. Sorry I draw the line at 'coins' that bear no resemblance to coins.

I ordered one after seeing the 85% sold on the RCM website. It's unique to say the least but I only got it because I think I'll be able to sell it at issue price and put $150 towards my masters club status. If it turns out to be a huge hit, I'll hang on to it. I'm trying not to waste my money on coins lately since the market for them has shrunk with the insane number of coins being pumped out. It'll be interesting to see how this coin plays out.
