Cleaning Dust Off Of Proof Coins - Coin Community Forum

WeLikeIke New Member United States 14 Posts	Posted 09/18/2015 11:34 pm I recently bought several proof coins that are in great condition except for bits of dust on their surface. I tried blowing on them but the dust wouldn't come off and I am worried that I could get saliva on the coins if I blow too hard. I thought about using a can of compressed air (the ones they sell for cleaning keyboards and such) but wondered if that was safe for coin. What is the best way to clean dust off of proof coins? Altaira Pillar of the Community Canada 2519 Posts	Posted 09/18/2015 11:55 pm I've seen something that looks like a rubber balloon on a stick, people pump the balloon part that to blow dust off CDs. This might work, I just don't know what it's called. Report this Post to the Staff
Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 09/19/2015 02:42 am What you are looking for is called a bulb syringe. They are often used for removing wax from the ear. Try your local pharmacy. Should cost less than $5. Another possibility would be to rinse the dust away with acetone. Report this Post to the Staff
