1874 Shield Nickel Doubling? - Coin Community Forum

WheatHunter Valued Member United States 108 Posts	Posted 12/19/2015 8:42 pm Is this Machine Doubling, Longacre doubling, a doubled die or something else? I'm assuming this is Longacre doubling since it sounds like it is common on Shield nickels, but I'm not sure. The right side of the obverse has the most noticeable doubling. The strongest doubling is in the date and in "trust" in the motto. Unfortunately these are the best pictures I can get right now. However, I should be able to get better pictures tomorrow. WheatHunter Valued Member United States 108 Posts	Posted 12/23/2015 12:25 pm OK, I'm almost 100% positive that this is the NGC labeled VP-005 variety (or F-10 by Fletcher). https://www.NGCcoin.com/coin-variet...vp-005-5422/ Here is a better picture of the die crack (is that the right term?)on my coin.
