I got some books from the library, and they seem really good if anyone's interested. They'll definitely keep me occupied over the break.
The first is called "The History of United States coinage" by Q. David Bowers. It's very extensive (500 pgs.), and there's really nice illustrtions
The second is Collecting Coins for Pleasure and Profit by Barry Klause. This is an older book, but it's nice for someone just getting into collecting, like me. I thought the sections about Greek and Roman coins were especially interesting.
The one that's the most interesting to me right now is 100 Greatest U.S. Coins by Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth. This is an overview of the rarest, most valuable coins in the U.S. It goes over the history of them, and why they're valuable. It's really easy to ready, and the pictures are amazing.

My all time favorite book on US general numismatics is "Adventures with Rare Coins" by Q. David Bowers, 2nd place is one you mentioned;
"The History of United States coinage as Illustrated by the Garrett Collection" also by Q. David Bowers.

The Adventures book is more relaxed reading, with lots and lots of illustrations, plus some good dealer stories and other tales from Dave's very interesting career as a coin dealer. Whereas the one you checked out is really in depth and an excellent reference on US coins and their history. I think it's a great book to follow up the Adventures book if you find you really want to explore more into US numismatics.
"Buy the Book Before You Buy the Coin" - Aaron R. Feldman - "And read it" - Me 2013!

There are so many books out there that are amazing to flip through. I found that by going through the library's inter-library loan system, you can get your hands on a lot of scarcer books that your main branch may not have.
