First Spouse Series One-Half Ounce Gold Uncirculated Coin - Elizabeth Monroe is to be released from the mint on Feb 28. In theory, should I be able to go to my bank and get it? If so, what would it cost?

no you have to order it from the mint and the price changes all the time because of the price of gold

I'd think carefully about purchasing those. So far they are even less popular than the baby sized Presidential dollar coins. So in the future you may well be stuck with a sort of problem attempting to sell.

I thought I heard somewhere that the first spouse coins sold out within the first few hours of being sold

I read that in the mag, too, kceb10. And to sell them as scrap? Don't they contain 1/2 oz of gold? I'm certainly glad this forum exists!!

The first 3 Spouse coins did sell out. They contain 1/2 ounce of 24k gold in each.
Like many others, I thought these would increase in value, fortunately they did increase in value and sell for slightly over the spot price of gold. They are great as a collectible, but don't purchase these for profit.

I only bought one -- Jefferson. I felt it would really go up in value due to the obverse.
I'm probably wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

Like I keep reading in these forums, it's better to be in this for the enjoyment than for the money. So if you like it - buy it.

I also only bought one and it was also the Jefferson because of its Obverse design and although I hardly ever buy a coin with the intent to sell I also thought this would be the best coin out of the whole series because of the bust design everyone loves so much. That being said I still only bought one because of my fascination of the Bust coinage that have alluded me in my 7070 album

I like them AND think they are a better investment than most "modern" gold coins. Only time will tell.

The first three sold out in hours but fter their lackluster perfomance on the aftermarket, I belive the Madison coin is still available over a month later.

Hey.....what if the spot price of gold climbs from $800 an ounce to $1,783.00 in 17 years ? And NEVER goes down again much ! Always a roller coaster ride with that stuff, but once it reaches $1,000.00 an ounce........it MAY never be cheaper than that EVER again ! Heh Heh..... just thought I'd throw a golf club into the spokes of the bike ! And 17 years from now the same thing with silver.....not the coins or what "face" is on it......but just spot price ? What if the world will NEVER see cheap gold/silver again. Will China, being the "future" biggest superpower the world has ever seen, affect things which we can't even fathom or foresee ? The "cost" of everything goes up with enough time ! What was the gas price when your parents were kids ? The price of bread ? A pack of smokes ? How much was a new car ? How about the price of an airplane ? How much were a box of pencils in 1961 ? How about the price of tennis shoes in 1954 ? How much were a sack of potatoes in 1954 ? WHAT WILL AN OUNCE OF GOLD COST IN THE YEAR 2086 ? I'll just bet you that it WON'T be what todays "spot" price is ! It won't "only" be higher.......IT'LL BE DRAMATICALLY HIGHER !
