Ok this might soung dumb but this is what I am thinking about doing.

I am thinking about selling off some of my Lincoln Cent collection, and starting again with the key dates, and getting as high of quality coins as I can. ( within my budget ). Right now in my set I am only missing 10 coins in the set (1909 - 1958) and I only have about 3 coins above AU between 1909 and 1930. I would really like to get higher quality coins than I have now.

thanks,
zacharycash

Set collecting can be fun and rewarding. It is the hunt and completion.

It is also OK to collect Very early die state fully struck high grade gem coins. This is what many Type collectors do.

Generally, I have found that the big money follows very rare coins. If investment is your goal, purchasing one real good coin is usually better than purchasing many inferior coins.

Enjoy you pursuit, however you ultimately decide. Gusp

If it was me I would sell everything that might have value today but might not have value tomorrow. Keep The good stuff get rid of the junk. Sell it on ebay to people that have more money then cents and be creative when selling you will get the most for your items.

Zach, I'm not quite understanding what your plan is. You're considering selling off your, sayyyyyyyyyyyy, VG/F key dates and replacing them with with better grades? I have lots of AU and BU coins (not key or semi-key dates) in those years.

I'd suggest waiting for the 09 craze? Might get more out of it then. Otherwise, sell it off if thats what you want. I'm trying to collect great coins right away, no upgrades needed type thing.

I would save your money and as you purchased upgrades sell your lower grade coins.
