Regarding these coins, dated 1935:

Germany-Alu-50-Rpf.-1935---When-Was-It-Put-Into-Circulation?

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that they were minted but not released to circulation until years later. Can anyone confirm this, and if true - does anyone know the details and reasons behind it?

I guess I have to answer my own question having found the following note at a German website: "Reserveprägung 1939/40 herausgegeben".

Do you think you could explain this here? I've also been wondering a bit about these pieces.

It means "Reserve coinage issued in 1939/40."

One seller goes on to say "Valid until 31 Mar 1949", presumably when the majority of the Bank Deutscher Lander coins started circulating.
