Friday I found a $5.00 Republic of Liberia coin w/ Thomas Jefferson on the obverse in a roll of halves. Today, William H. Taft. Both are year 2000. I've seen others for sale depicting other US Presidents. The coins are very close in size to US Halves (they fit in the 0.50 wrappers) and the reverse is strikingly similar. I haven't found much meaningful info on these coins except that they may be being produced by the SF mint (they bear an "S" mintmark). Is anyone else out there finding these? What do you know about them?

This probably doesn't't help, but each $5 Liberian coin is worth about $0.08 USD.

Good way to short a roll, use "cheap" foreign coins to fill it out.

The vast majority of coins that Liberia mints are for collectors. How else could you explain this:

Liberia does use the San Fransisco Mint to make some of their coins.

Actually, The Standard Catalog of World Coins lists this coin at $6.00 in UNC. While it doesn't list mintage numbers, I'd be surprised if more than 50,000 were made. The actual number could very easily be below 10,000

Good catch, snowman! I must admit my ignorance of World Coin values! The key word was "cheap" and this one does not fit the bill!
