Ironing Or Pressng Notes Effect The Value ?

Rainman Valued Member United States 294 Posts	Posted 02/25/2008 4:42 pm Hi I'm a coin collector that has been lurking here and have learned a lot .Stupid question dose ironing or pressing a note to remove some wrinkles or to flatten it take away some of its value ?like cleaning a coin of low value one for a personal collection maybe OK .But rare or ones for resale not a good idea . daviscfad Pillar of the Community United States 4541 Posts	Posted 02/26/2008 12:27 am I boutght a Legal tender 5 dollar note a few year ago at a flea market that looked really nice when I bought it but when I got it home it looked a little different. The next day it had wrinkles in it that want there when I bought it. I think it was ironed. So it might look good for a few hours but I think the wrinkles would come back Report this Post to the Staff
Sap Moderator Australia 16804 Posts	Posted 02/26/2008 03:41 am Yes, washing, ironing or pressing a note is considered as bad among note collectors as cleaning, dipping or artificially toning a coin is among coin collectors. If a note is creased or folded, the acceptable thing to do to flatten it out is to store it in some heavy books for a few weeks, or simply put it in a banknote album and let the banknote pages flatten it out.
