Does anyone have a copy of Stacks Auction catalog of Oct. 16, 1990 (Lovejoy collection) ? I need a description of lot 89 (1828 Dime). My question is: Was it in a TPG holder, if so what TPG ?

Is this the JR-1 proof, ex: Merkin/Ahwash/Lovejoy (sold @ $7.1k) that was resold at B&M in '92 2 years after the Stacks Lovejoy sale?

The Lovejoy JR-1 was a no-sale as a raw proof when offered as part of Benson II in 2002, and it was a raw coin when offered by Stacks in 1990. The coin was graded as a PR63 at the time by both Goldberg in 2002 and Stacks in 1990. If it was in a TPG holder, neither one seems to mention it, and Goldberg is pretty clear that it's a raw coin.

To the best of my knowledge it's still one of five known, with most people being of the opinion that Pogue's 1828 is not a true proof strike but a prooflike business strike (NGC said MS65*PL and PCGS said MS65+, for what they're worth.)

Paralyse, Yes, same coin. It was in a holder at Lovejoy sale and B&M sale. Benson cracked it out and resubmitted it for a better grade. Came back unholdered. Benson failed to keep the TPG insert from the holder. Current TPG'ers will not certify it "Proof". It was a no sale in B&M and Benson sales. Both sales included the dime with the 1828 Proof Quarter, both from the Cleanay sale of 1890.
