A few years ago I picked up the Washington 32D (VG8) and S (G6) for $20 each at a shop in OKC. Later in the same week I picked up the 1895P dime for $3 in F2.

So for the past few years I've been working on those two sets while maintaining my others.

I completed the Barber dime set 2 or 3 months ago when I picked up the 1895 O (G4-G6) for $190. This month I completed the Quarter set.

After spending so much time working on circulated sets I decided that I wanted to put together a mint state set. After thinking about my budget I narrowed the choices down to Franklins, Kennedys, and Roosevelts. I've always had a soft spot for dimes as my first set to complete was a Mercury (minus the 16D) when I was 10, so I picked the Roosies.

The set is off to a nice start. I've managed to get about half of the clads out of the way strictly through opening up cellos and I've managed to pick up about 20 or so of the silvers in ms63 or better.

It's actually going much quicker than I thought it would so much so that I've decided to add in the pre 65 silver proofs. I'm using the Official U.S. Mint album by Harris which has 18 empty slots on the last page. This works out well as there are 16 silver proofs.

Long story short... 1. Yeah me for starting a new set. 2. Wow, the early uncirculated examples are more that I thought they were going to be. I thought there would only be a couple in the $20 and higher range. 3. Is it just me or does anyone else think the pre 65 proofs are undervalued? I picked up 2 1950 proofs for $42 each. With a mintage of just over 50k this seems pretty cheap to me.

dimes are relatively unpopular to collectors so the demand for the proof is much lower than for cents, halves, and dollars, which tend to be higher in demand. so if there are 50000 proof dimes out there and 50000 people interested, the price will stay low, but 50000 cents and a million people interested will drive the price way up.

I'm with you on the lack of interest of dime proofs. I say get them now. They're cheap and you can't argue with mintage figures. In addition, as time goes on, some of them will be lost, disfigured, etc.

I also collect Roosevelts. I collect them in AU condition. I only need a few Silver Proofs from the past few years to complete my set. I use the Dansco album to display them.
