You probably have a favorite site you browse to buy coins. I have attempted a list of most ancient-coin selling sites: http://augustuscoins.com/ed/dealers.htmlIt may have some broken links because sites keep changing URLs. For example, some of you have bought from me at my old site which is totally gone as of a week ago and replaced by http://augustuscoins.com/index.htmlIt has Greek, Roman, and Byzantine coins and ancient-coin books. Take a look and please bookmark it. I don't think it is easy to find that site otherwise. If you know of other ancient-coin selling sites, drop me a note and I'll consider adding it to the list. I will not list individual vcoins dealers; the vcoins link is enough. If you find a broken link, drop me a note and I'll delete it.

Thanks for making this list and posting it. I have moved it up to the Sticky section so that it can stay readily available.

There are many more good dealers on ebay IMO than there are bad ones. I have been around ancient coins for a while and for the most part know who the good and bad dealers are. There has also been a list compiled that show the bad ones. It can be found in the sticky section here titled Books, downloads, and websites. My concern is with new collectors that do not have the knowledge that we have. So we caution them to be very careful when buying for ebay and to review that list I mentioned. Personally I buy from ebay and will continue to do so. As good as Vcoins is, not everyone wants to pay their fees for having a store there.

Doesn't everyone know everything is offered on ebay? ebay can be a good source if you know what you are doing. Listing " ebay" is not like listing fixed sites with individuals behind them. Listing good ebay sellers would be an unending task, as would be listing bad ebay sellers who dupe unsuspecting buyers. My list is too simple to deal with ebay. If a CCF member reports good evidence to me that one of the sellers I have listed is a crook, that seller will be off the list shortly. I can't do that with ebay.

@ louisvillekyshop, feel free to undertake the task of listing ebay sellers. It is not something I chose to do.

First friends, I should explain why I removed my posts. It just felt incorrect for me to discuss ebay listings on this topic and my error of posting my own shop was corrected by the moderator, (thanks and I do understand this was correct to do). The purpose of the original posting was never to add ebay dealers and I do understand now sorry. I also understand I could, as the poster suggests, create a separate list of long standing ebay shops if I like and perhaps in a few months when I have made it through the restriction period for new members I might do that. I have learned a lot and I do want to advertise my store in various places across the web, I have a request in with wildwinds for example, so I have learned about how write such an ad from this discussion. The important part is to list the name of the person who stands behind the coins, the years in business and the positive feedback for numbers of sales to date. That is probably the best way to overcome the natural aversion to trusting ebay dealers who choose to exclusively use that platform for their online store.

I started this thread with a list of web sites for buying ancient coins. Today I updated it http://augustuscoins.com/ed/dealers.htmlMost of it is unchanged, but I removed some broken links and made some minor improvements. If you have time to search the vast web for ancient coins, that site should help.

I have two: Noble Numismatics specialist coin auctioneers (Sydney) - perhaps 5% to 10% of therir sales of around $10 AUD would be in ancient coins.
For price referencing, I usually go to VCOINS for comparatively similar coins before considering to bid.
I.S Wright coin auctioneers - (Sydney). They have some very high expertise in ancient coins also.
I always go to the view days, and examine in hand very closely, any coin that I may be interested in. If the bid is successful, I always pay in cash.

I am far from an expert, but what has worked for me is searching on ebay for batches of coins of good quality from sellers with 100% ratings, and at least a few hundred reviews...

Nuqud Gallery is different from what you usually see on here (www.nuqudgallery.com), this company sells ancient/medieval coins mostly from the Islamic world, a scarce type of specialty with ancient/medieval coin dealers.
