I was surprised that no one had yet created a thread devoted to stocks and bonds on this forum. I'm guessing there are a few collectors out there and maybe this will encourage some others to post a few things. I'll start...

Typically, I don't collect foreign stocks and bonds, since engraved material is what interests me and most foreign bonds (especially European) are lithographed. But this one was too good to pass up, for several reasons.

This is a 1910 8% percent 20-year coupon bond for the Bank of Peru and London. It's a specimen bond -- as indicated by the 0000 serial number -- engraved by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co., a London bank note firm. This is the first specimen I had seen of their work. The bond is quite large, about 21" long with the stub and coupons. The maritime vignette and typography is lovely and even the back side has some terrific engraved lathe work. It's also unusual in that this bond paid interest quarterly, where most U.S. bonds paid interest twice a year. Hence all the little coupons.

I have some Bonds from the 1800's in my Ephemera Collection...

I like the Manuscript Documents from Colonial America (pre 1776) showing items purchased or sold in British Pounds, etc. and since this pre date's the U.S. Dollar, and CCF is a
Numismatic discussions site, maybe they can add a Forum dedicated to Ephemera..

I for one would like to post items of interest, and maybe include a brief comment on what attracted me to purchase some old American Paper..

(I can say it all started when I attended a local Auction that was liquidating Museum Items about 30 year's ago)

Not really on point with what this thread is looking for, but I have saved a treasury bond that I got from when I was a kid (90's) since all treasury bonds are online now.. I usually stay away from paper items only coins but for some reason want to keep that.

Actually, Treasury bonds and savings bonds would still fall under this field of collecting, though it's a narrow niche. Feel free to post a scan - just be sure to block out your SS number!

IRONBRGDE, thanks for posting your railroad stocks! I especially like that last one of the Philadelphia & Reading RR. In fact I use that head-on train vignette as an avatar on a different forum.

So for fun, I'll add some other railroad material from the previous century. I'm a big fan of American Bank Note engravings, as you will probably figure out.

I think I'll refresh this topic with some non-railroad material tonight. As always, I welcome other collectors to post their treasures.

I picked up an odd item the other day. This appears to be a sample bond for the Mexican Western RR. It's tiny by comparison to most bonds; I scanned a bit of a dollar bill for scale. After reading the back, I thought this might have been more of an advertising item. It looks like these were sold to raise funds to benefit railroad workers.

But here's the most interesting part: there is no listing for the Mexican Western Railroad in Poor's Manual of Railroads from that time period. So this may have been an elaborate way to fleece benevolent investors who thought they were aiding indigent rail workers. The con men were busy even then!
