I don't recall ever finding die chips in the date (Even though I know they are common) So this week I found 2 One 1994 one 1960D LD plus this one has the skirted R Just sharing, Thanks   |

Nice chips, but the R in LIBERTY looks like a hit. From the pic, it looks like the leg of the R was hit downwards and to the left. It looks like an indentation there?

Check the 1969 edition of "THE CLASSIFICATION AND VALUE OF ERRORS ON THE Lincoln Cent" by Jean Cohen. Under the section called "Called Letters" you'll find 27 listings for a 1960D with die chips on the "R" and the "9" pages 359-363. CC, I don't mean to hijack, but here is one that I have. If you want me to delete the image, just let me know. This is my only one with the skirt and the chip in the date. I've got two that are skirts only.  I didn't realize that the image wasn't sharp when I first took it. I can grab close ups later if you want them for comparison. |

I don't mind Druu, I didn't even know they had listings for these. Yes, you can do close ups and I will the same. I am not a member of the ANA so I can't look it up to see if it is listed. If someone who is a member and would like to volunteer to look it up for me, I would greatly appreciate it. Edit Close-ups   Edited by CoinCents

The book is not online, only checked out and mailed to ANA members and then returned to the ANA. All the images are hand drawn illustrations by Jean using Lincoln Cent imprint images that Arnold Margolis used on the 2x2 coin flips that he marketed in the 60's. Do you have any die markers on you coin? |

Only two listings have a die crack on the bottom of the coat. But the die chip in the R does not match. I think the reverse markers you note are PSD "Post Strike Damage". |

Sandy, Here's one I came across this weekend. Have a look and if you want me to take a picture of a specific area, let me know. I haven't attempted to attribute this one yet, but maybe we can piggyback here. JC - wonderful input! I don't have access to the reference you mentioned, but happy to know that it exists. No crack on my specimen either. But I do see a few die scratches that might line up with something.    |

Really Nice Rackster, yours is in so much better condition than mine. Glad to have you aboard :) I am still waiting on Druu to post some close ups of his, maybe he will have time to get to them today. Hopefully JC will be able to help you out too.
Pete had one a couple of months back and that it how they first came to my attention.

Thanks - I picked up a number of chipped die specimens this past weekend. Maybe 6 or 7 different chip/chip-combination specimens. This reference JC mentioned has me thinking!
My coins are mainly AU specimens, so even though you have a circulated specimen, there may be markers I can help you with. Always glad to try anyway!

Well just in case we have the same reverse die. I thought I had a couple of die gouges (see my images above), but JC thinks they are probably just PMD. Can see if you have any die gouges down in that area? Or if you can spot some different die markers on your reverse that I can look for on mine. I can't usually pick up on the die scratches, but I can (most of the time) find the gouges, die dents, cracks etc. Thanks Rackster, I appreciate it. Do you think these are all from the same Obverse Die and just different die stages? Edited by CoinCents

Hi Sandy - leaning towards different die states at this time. I didn't see either anomaly on my specimen. The reverse is pretty clean aside from scratches from brushing but there was a crack between the E and C bridging ONE CENT. Have a look at your specimen. Here's a picture to help.  |

No don't have a die crack there :( Here is Pete's Skirted R Post - his has the most extra die chips - no crack in that area on his either. His is the latest die stage of all of ours then. At until we get Druu's images. http://goccf.com/t/281044All 4 of our's are very different. |
