okay, so bought a bulk lot at an auction and these coins were in it. I found out that they were gold, but I'm not sure if they are worth anything other than gold value cause they were made into earrings. Are the two coins still salvageable. I mean, other than being made into jewelry, they are in great condition. Any advice would be appreciated!

These appear to bear the design of the gold Napoleon III 5 francs (1856-1860). However, from what I can see in the photos they are gold or brass plated base metal. It was common practice in Europe at the time to wear buttons and other clothing accessories that consisted of, or appeared to consist of, coins - particularly those bearing a likeness of a ruler to whom the solidier/gentleman felt allegiance. I suspect these were made by a jeweler. They thus have historic, but no intrinsic value.

Even in the event these had been the actual gold coins, use as jewelry would limit their value to a discounted wholesale gold rate. (ie no rare dates)

Hope this helps
