A missing S in the designers initials TS-I finally figured it out. I didn't even know about this variety.

Please enlighten us-how rare is it?

I don't know much about it. However the newest Charlton has this variety listed while the last few editions did not have it. I can say the total mintage for the 1974 half is 3,436,650 and for the missing S listing it says included. I believe this variety is fairly rare. I think I overpaid somewhat but at the time it was the only one listed on ebay. SPP-Ottawa can fill us in on this variety.

It is quite scarce... more so in mint state grades. I sold one graded ICCS MS-64 last year for $350. That is the finest one I ever found.

I bought a bulk lot of 1974 50 cts a few years ago with 12 missing S coins in it. I peddled off the poorer ones on e-bay for a discount and sent the 3 best ones to ICCS. One of each MS62,MS63 and a MS64.

First mint state one I have seen on an auction block (outside of ebay), coming up for auction in the Paris Coin Show Bell auction. Looks like there is already strong bidding for it.

Another mint state one coming up for auction, at the February Paris (Ontario) Coin Show, with Geoffrey Bell Auctions... there was some spirited bidding and a strong hammer price for the one sold in 2019 (see above post).
