Partial Broad strike, aka Railroad coin. The collar that holds coin in place was only partially deployed, therefore the pressure from striking makes that poor impression. A very worn error coin, but nice one to find in the raw. congrats, good eye!

Hi. Railroad coin? How can I find out the mist info on coins. How does one know railroad coin info or what that is. Trying and want to learn all I can to be a expert in this field I enjoy this so much. I got hurt really bad about 2 1/2 years ago. Several surgeries. Severe head injury etc. this has and is helping me relax and try to stay focused on something. I was laying around and pretty much deep depression setting in etc. It keeps me busy for many hours and not to hard on the body. Lol. I have my own construction business and pretty much need a new career. Several knee and back surgeries and can barley use my left arm and hand so construction is very hard lol. Anyway, any help you can provide me on day sites and places that are best for learning and materials needed or should have for a beginner just starting out. Apps or programs for higher quality pictures and identifying the errors on the coin( like adding text and ability to circle the areas ) I see pictures posted that are so vivid and clear and also super close ups with no pixel distortion. How? What Can I get to do that?

Lmk
Thanks

We are glad to have you aboard, Charles! There are a handful of sites I use all the time for reference:

http://www.error-ref.com
http://cuds-on-coins.com
http://varietyvista.com
http://doubleddie.com

As far as photography, check out the CCF forum devoted to it:

There are explanations of methods using different setups from professional to smartphone and discussions about software as well.

To me it just looks damaged. Note the crimping in the center of the edge of the coin. That doesn't happen on a partial collar.

It just doesn't look right to be a partial collar.
