I recently inherited a coin collection, which at first glance, contains mostly common coins. He was big into commemorative coins, with a special interest in the moon landing. I found this coin below which I am having a hard time tracking down. I wondered if someone on these forums might be able to provide some additional information.

If there's a better forum to post this in, please redirect me!

Thank you.

Welcome to CCF!

What you have is a silver round struck by a private company; it is not a coin struck under the authority of a government.

Generic silver rounds very often sell for just a little over the spot price of the precious metal they contain.

Apollo 11, however, is a very popular theme and, with its 50th anniversary approaching, your piece should sell for more than a generic round as collector interest is increasing.

If you go to sell the round, I would look to get at least $25 to $30 for it (if not a little more - there is one currently listed on eBay as a "Buy it Now" for $32.49). It's likely, however, that if you try to sell it to a coin dealer/gold & silver buyer/pawn shop, they will pay you less than its melt value.

Collecting history, one commemorative coin (or medal) at a time!

On the edge if you carefully look without touching the face sides, it will probably have stamped the Mint maker and silver weight listed. Hopefully this is a solid silver round, not just plated, value would be much less.

States 999 fine silver on reverse.

It's a better round. It should sell for $10-$12 more than silver spot.

Nice round.

When you bought a set of 4 tires from Michelin there was a bonus offer. When you applied for it you got a standup Michelin plastic case with a photo of the moon landing walk, a card about Apollo 11 and the silver coin you show held in a another round protective case. I have the complete set.
