I subscribed to Numismatic News back in the early to mid-1970s, and remember these two columnists. Herbert wrote a column about mint errors and Ganz had a more general column. Herbert was older and Ganz looked like he was 10.
Just wanted to see if anybody else remembers these two guys?
His section was called Coin Clinic. My dad had lots of old coin collecting books and magazines that I used to read.
He passed away like 5 years ago. Wayne Homren wrote him a nice obituary which is how I learned that he had passed on.
I don't remember Ganz as much except for him being elected ANA president a number of years ago. I know he wrote some books on investing in coins but not sure what else he got around to. A quick Google search says he was a lawyer and also a politician!
Ah yes, Coin Clinic. I wrote to Alan about my XF 1864-L IHC, which appears to have some doubling. He wrote back and explained that from the sound of it, it was a "close double-strike." I still have that letter somewhere.
