Hairlines - What Is NGC Referring To Here

999fine Pillar of the Community United States 1346 Posts	Posted 05/05/2018 01:16 am I was perusing the online page of NGC grading criteria and noticed the word "hairlines" used in describing some UNC grades: MS/PF 66 Very well struck with minimal marks and hairlines. MS/PF65 Well struck with moderate marks or hairlines. MS/PF64 Average or better strike with several obvious marks or hairlines and other miniscule imperfections. Can someone post an image of such hairlines? My only encounter with the term is with "details" coins. ... I may have to form my own experiment for this. Yes, I understand how dirt/grit can be moved around by "cleaning" and scratch metal, but I am not willing to allow the belief that a microfiber cloth alone can scratch a coin. It's not possible. John1 Moderator United States 56855 Posts	Posted 05/05/2018 06:33 am I think any cloth,microfiber or other can trap debris in it's fibers and drag it along the surface of a coin and scratch it. Wala,hairline scratches. John1 Report this Post to the Staff
