This new purchase holds a special meaning for me. It is from the Dale Larson collection, whom I am fortunate enough to have had the pleasure and privilege of sharing a few show and tells with about 15 years ago while living in Southern California. An absolute gem of a man who no doubt has forgotten more than I will ever hope to know, I have always looked up to him as both a mentor and a friend.
In my eyes, the highlight of his collection were his toned late date Walkers. When I saw them being offered in the most recent Legend Regency auction, and after receiving the appropriate permission from my wife (and some input from Dale), I am proud to say that I have finally acquired a piece from his collection.
Dale purchased this coin from Bobby Avena.
Hope you all like her.

Nice coin.
Interesting that it got a -66.
It has to be essentially mark-free because the strike is quite weak.
But weak strikes are normal for that date/mm.
Describe it as if there were no picture.

Hopefully you keep that great information with this beautiful example.

It is a typical 42-S greatly enhanced by the obverse bullseye toning.

The only problem with these is the impossibility of a matched set.

I've bid on a number of similar WLH over the decades and had my head handed to me every time.

Yeah, you pretty much summed it up. Dale described it to me as very pq for the grade as the coin is essentially mark free. I am so looking forward to having it in hand again, I have waited over 15 years for this opportunity.
Thanks again for all the comments and for letting me share this with you.

Congratulations. What a beauty. Superb toning and great blast. This look of superb surfaces, brilliant fields framed by a ring of rainbow toning is very desirable as the hammer price would suggest. Consider that the next lot in the Legend auction was also a 1942-S PCGS 66 CAC and a beauty also and better struck. It sold for 1/3 of the OP's coin.
