I remember walking down the sidewalk as a little one, trying to rush my grandfather along because I needed to grab a bag of penny candy. He never did more than a slow steady stroll. He always stopped to bend down, looking at a penny, only to make me pick it up. It makes perfect sense to me now, grandpa always bought my penny candy with a dime. I grew up, of course distant, and snickered at his love for a penny. Grandpa passed away 20 years ago, leaving me a Volkswagen Bug and a suitcase. I had no problem driving the Bug, I placed the suitcase in my closet and never opened it. I came across it after I had my first grandson. I sat it down, touched it as I cried, never realized I didn't ever give myself a chance to mourn him. I found war letters from two US president's, a flight log, marriage/divorce papers, and a little brown bag with my name on it. Mostly all pennies, mostly all Lincoln pennies, nothing much a collector would want. They have much value for me, it brought back memories, and sparked a love for Lincoln.

To the CCF Very nice story Chrissy. Don't discount the value of your cent coins. Sounds like they must all be older years. Even certain Lincoln's can be worth a premium. If you have any that you think can be interesting, post pictures on the appropriate forum. There are many experts here who are willing to help.
