Die Chips
Definition: A small piece (less than 4 square millimeters) that falls out of the die face and has no direct connection to the design rim. The missing piece leaves a void in the die face into which coin metal flows. As a result, the coin shows a featureless lump in the affected area.
A die chip can be connected to a die crack or it can be freestanding. Die chips frequently develop within narrow interstices in the design, such as the gap between the letters of LIBERTY. Hence the so-called "BIE" errors.

I've noticed that the last O in Monticello seems to be a common location for a die chip. I have a couple from 2010 with the same thing, and have seen it on other recent years as well. I just figure it is a high stress area on the die, and the post that makes the center of the O breaks easily because of this.

http://goccf.com/t/324182You'll find them on the 2015 P reverse also, same area. I found more than 40 BU (complete roll) with the 3 reverse chips all identical. Others in the box contained a variation of 1-3 of the reverse chips along the right bottom corner of the building, the O in Montecello and the S in Cents.

I think, OP knows that those are die chips, he/she is asking if there is a relevance between 2016 and 2017 positions of die chips particularly those that are fallen on the O of MONTICELLO.
