Blurry but looked legit. Now I see they used the shadows to make it look different on ebay
Rest in Peace

After looking at many of these buggers, I have come to the conclusion there are really THREE varieties. A Small as we know with all markers. A Large with a longer tail on the 7 and one thet is confusing to a lot of folks, the one like the OP's. If you compare this to a long tail version you will see a minute difference, it has become shorter. Why this is, I can't get my mind wrapped around it, it isn't a modified die, you can't shorten the device, only lengthen it. So it must be a Grease Fill of some sort. It doesn't show up that often so it isn't a master hub issue but most likely a single die issue. Strange indeed.

Not a small date - curious what the auction pictures were and why they enticed you to purchase?

Odd that the 9 appears to be from a small date but there is that sort of line at the top of the 7 indicating large date. Liberty is normal like a large date.

Do you have the link to the purchase? Did the seller try deceiving you with completely different pictures? I feel bad that this seller took advantage of you. I hope you get your money back. Give us an update, and let us know how the case is going.

A couple of weeks ago I was trying to buy a 70s small and was noticing on ebay there were some listed small dates that sure didn't look right with the curve of the 9 and to well struck liberty.ended up not taking the chance and bought at a local show.

Not sure what you mean when you say you opened a case, Should be an easy, "return requested - Item not as described."

No it does not. The Small date should point level right, not down the right.

I was under the assumption he already tried that, so he opened a case because the seller wouldn't. Maybe not?
