Geo.v Nickel With Thin Tall Rims - Is This Normal?

John K Valued Member United States 419 Posts	Posted 01/03/2019 9:25 pm I never collected George 5 cent nickles. But saw this one at a shop today and just liked it. I am surprised that the rim on this one is so thin and raised up so high above the field. Do most of these have similar rims? I would think such a rim would quickly have nicks or be worn down. spru Bedrock of the Community United States 12477 Posts	Posted 01/04/2019 01:22 am I don't know what is normal with these, but I do see what looks like minor "finning" on the right side of the reverse rim which would make it appear thicker/higher than normal, but that's more a result of a slightly misaligned die than anything. It's a nice looking, lustrous coin. SPP-Ottawa Moderator Canada 10471 Posts	Posted 01/05/2019 05:19 am There are two rim types with these coins: Far (square) and Near (concave) - basically refers to how the rim meets the fields. Yours looks like the far/square rim type... You get this in several dates. 1922, 1929, 1932. I wrote about this back in March 2007, for the Edmonton Coin Club newsletter...
