The 2008 coins seem to be very slow in coming out. So far, I have only found 1 pence, 2 pence, and 5 pence of the new designs in circulation.
I have also found the 2008 old design 1 pence in circulation but no others.
Very frustated that I have yet to find a 2007 50 pence with the standard reverse.

Well those are the denominations that always come out first! Last year it took towards the end for the first 10 and 20 pence pieces to come out, I never noticed any £2 coins for that year whilst it still was 2007!...I have only just found one of those tricentenary of the Act of Union between England and Scotland 1707-2007 commemoratives. So lucky you for having found a 1p and a 5p because I haven't :(

These new Coat of Arms series for 2008 are so cool! I saw a picture (forgot which magazine) that showed how they all fit together...so cool. Any of you UK guys wanna trade a set of the new 2008 Coat of Arms coins for some modern US coinage? Seriously though, let me know...

Are they proofs or regular strikes? Looks like circulation strikes to me - hmm not my thing really but they do look nice.

Regular strikes.
Mint has a proof vesion on offer for $34.95 in base metal.
Normally I would not buy a set like this but thought it would be nice to have uncirculated strikes of the last of the old design and first of the new design.

Quote: Mint has a proof vesion on offer for $34.95 in base metal. Now that's a nice amount! I'd expect a Piedfort Proof set in sterling silver for that money

Silver Proof set of these was £149.95 and The Royal Mint sold them all. Gold Proof set of these is £2495.00 and Platinum is £5995.00. So you can understand why I only went with the base metal unc set.

So I gather that comment you very seldom purchase coins from The Royal Mint. Only a few purchases from The Royal Mint have been for me. Most have been for people living outside of the UK. Thought it would be a nice idea to have an uncirculated set dated 2008 of both the new and old designs. £19.95 for both was not that bad of a price about the same as two large pizza from Pizza Hut in town.

Kena - I have nothing against people who buy from The Royal Mint or any other. It just isn't my cup of tea to buy shiny new coins or high mintage ones as I'd much rather hunt the older coins in choice grades and pick up the odd low mintage coin here and there...
