Just received an application to become a collector submitter to CAC. On the application it says that I must be an ANA member in good standing. It was after hours so I couldn't get in touch with CAC to verify this before the weekend.

Are any of you CAC collector submitters and can you confirm whether or not it's a requirement they enforce? I know they rarely update their website so I'm not sure if the application is outdated.

CAC is not accepting new Dealer or Collector memberships at this time. They are capping their memberships for at least the rest of this year according to their website.

Unfortunately no one is going to know the answer to that other than them. I suspect that it's more for the dealer applicants and not a big deal, but can't say for sure

I think I read somewhere that there is a waiting list to become a member and that was awhile ago. I would imagine there always will be a waiting list based on the premiums green and especially gold beans are fetching..

Doesn't surprise me.
Same requirement to insure your coins with Hugh Wood.
Describe it as if there were no picture.

I printed off a CAC application several weeks ago. Joined ANA, didn't cost much and e-magazine is nice to get. CAC app asks for references(?!?) and I wasn't sure what to do, so I never sent it in. Due to physical limitations, I can't drive or get around much, so I don't belong to a local coin club, don't go to shows or have a close relationship with a local dealer, so I never sent the app in because I didn't know what to do.
I'd like to join CAC if they reopen membership, but aside from explaining my situation don't know what to do about references. Anyone have any idea how critical this is?

On that part, I was going to put down my rep at Heritage, Ian from Great Collections and one of the reps from David Lawrence. I too don't have many contacts in the business so I guess the only I could put down are from the major auction houses that I buy from.

Thanks, Mike. I buy from Heritage and D.L., too. That's an excellent idea.

You can put down a lot of things for references like other CAC members or dealers that your friends with from a forum or whatever.

I haven't even bothered to try and join. I would try to get a relationship with someone who already has a membership and ask to submit through them.

A lot of people do that, but many of us myself included prefer to do all of our submitting ourselves. Involving a 3rd party in the process increases the chances of something happening

That's exactly why I wanted to do it solo. The 2 dealers out here complain so much it sounds like they could close their doors on any given day. And I can't use them for references because I never buy any of their overpriced junk. I end up feeling guilty every time I visit one of their stores and don't buy anything.

Mike,

I am a CAC member and the active ANA membership has been been required . Just sign up for the ANA membership and they will issue the ANA number you need. JA does this to support the hobby.
