This is passed on from my great grandfather still in the original case. It is my most cherished coin although not the most valuable

I was curious, so I looked it up. It was designed by William Barber, and it's copper. There was a gilt copper version, too.

The reference for this SCD in R.W. Julian's guide is CM-11. It has one side that is similar to HK-21, but the other side is (I believe) unique to this medal. These can be fairly pricey in high grade, especially with the original case. Thanks for sharing this heirloom with us!

Edit: Corrected HK reference to reflect the bronze version.
