To start, depends on the coin. For a silver Roosie maybe, for a quarter possibly, for a Morgan, YOU BET!! (War as in I mean by any means nessecary to get that coin)

No. If you two are friendly the teller should just sell it to you for face value. Another option is to offer more than face value.

still in circ > I think you're taking the wrong approach when you go to a bank . You can get better results by being nice and polite . Fighting for a coin in her tray is not the way I would go about it . Ask if you can buy it at face and tell her that you collect coins . If she says no just let it go ,she probably wants it for herself or a friend .

T-Bob, I can see were you are coming from on this topic. I was just giving my thoughts on a hypothetical situation to see if others will respond in the same way I do or other approaches. I don't actually argue that much with the tellers lol

I would take the long view and value the relationship over the coin.

Same topic, similar question. For instance, what if you are in a different city, different bank and it's your lucky day and you spot something in that tellers draw? Just to give another scenario for others to ponder about.

Although I would be disappointed, I would definitely let the teller keep the coin. I would likely offer to share my knowledge about the coin, as well as recommend how they could sell it for the best price. I would follow-up with an offer to buy it. They do not earn much money. The coin is a bonus for them. Let them have their bonus.

No, it's just a coin. If the teller has it, it's not yours. Maybe if you are nice, they will give it to you but realize you are asking the teller to give you something of value for next to nothing (face amount).
