So I've recently started roll hunting cents again after a 10 year hiatus. Today while on my 3rd roll I found this Frankenstein looking cent. I first thought PMD, then I saw on the reverse that States is struck through whatever was along the rim. I'm trying to wrap my head around what exactly happened here. The coin weighs 2.5g

It is damaged, but not sure how. I doubt the dryer theory. Why? Because the rims would be affected. But they are still there. I suspect more of a heating issue.

I lean toward heat as well, or possibly acid.

Thanks everyone for the welcoming nature and knowledge. I hadn't even thought about it being a Dryer Coin. In fact I forgot those were even a thing. However it happened, the concensus is saying PMD which is all I really wanted to verify. So long for the Frankenlincoln variety lol
