Hey Buddy,
Your attribution of the the 1835 looks spot-on. The 1817 looks like an (R-2) O-103 based upon it's Star 13 positioning. I think you got a pretty good/great deal.

Nice coins. I'd call the 1817 an AG03.

Aren't the O-103 and the 103a the same obv except the dot between the 1 and 7 is obliterated because of the late die state? I keep looking and can maybe see the dot on mine, but I'm not sure if its my eyes putting it there.

You are correct. They both (O-103 nd O-103A) have the same reverse. The dot is only on the O-103. Maybe yours is a O-103A R-3. I can't tell if the dot is there though.

I'll get and post some closeups later, then maybe can make a determination. Okay, here it is, let me know what you think.

I hope you don't mind if I enhanced the photo a little contrast and edge enhancement. Might help. Jim

After looking at the close-ups I don't think it's the 181.7 which is a little better making it the O-103A; R-3 variety. Here is a link which shows the positioning of the the dot in relation to the date. http://coinzip.proboards79.com/inde...&thread=1504
