Came across this. As nice as it looks it unfortunately seems to have a planchet defect at 4 o'clock on the obverse in the field.

What happens in grading if a coin has a planchet defect? Are there people who collect that?

If gradable please grade!

This is a very common coin up to and including MS-67.

This one appears to be about a 64, but with the photo shot showing no luster it's hard to tell.

I myself would wait. If that is a planchet defect it detracts rather than adds collective value.

I agree with moxking, and for the reasons given.
Fields blemish free, but hard to grade at this level with these pictures, could even go as far as 66.

So does the planchet defect get factored in like a scratch or does it get noted but is ignored in grading?

Agree it's difficult to grade without a better sense of the luster.

Does a die crack like the one on the right side of the obverse affect grading?

I have to agree with MS-64 solely because of the lack of luster .There doesn't seem to be a problem with that coin , planchet flaw or die crack on obverse is minimal and would not detract from grade .

sharpness and detail wise could be in the MS65+ range. the blemishes in the photos on the profile and hair could hold it back from going higher. I'm more concerned with the original luster as none of these photos are letting us see the surfaces that well
