The secondary market is definately the best way to buy modern Brit coins. Getting them from circulation is not always ideal, whilst it's certainly cheaper The Royal Mint is crafty. To stop people from collecting BU coins from circulation they started issuing the coins from 1998 onwards with a 'satin' type surface. A surface that gets scuffed and hairlined as soon as it rubs against another coin. Which means after it's been through two tills it ain't BU anymore!

I am not 100% sure but I think it is only available through buying the whole proof set...but thanks to a member here, I am able to buy just that one coin without having to buy the whole set which will have coins that I am not interested in. The issue price for the complete set is US$84.95 (?).

The Canadian gold/silver VC is in the proof set at Canada $84.95 and it is my understanding now that the two coin set is also available, both the silver and the gold plated silver, in a seperate set but the gold plated is definitely limited. The silver sells for Canada $39.95 so I was very fortunate to know a Canadian dealer who routinely busts sets open and got in almost first as when these coins sell out the secondary market will NOT be a kind place for years! This particular dealer sells at U.S. prices thus avoiding exchange rates and a misunderstanding. I would suggest you get these NOW while they are readily available! Lim118 yours will be leaving Canada any day now and I will keep you posted! Also I expect the limited issue "Snowy Owl" $1 coin (Specimen Set 40,000 only) to do very well and early indications are very favorable as they have reached the $40 to $50 range right off the bat and they are still available from the mint? I already have mine stashed away!!!

Must edit my explanation a bit. There are NO two coins silver dollar sets available. The gold plated VC must come out of the 2006 Canadian proof set or you can buy the non-gold plated (silver version) as a single coin. Sorry for the misunderstanding as I had heard reference to the Double Dollar Set but they were referring to the $1 Loonie and the Gold Plated VC in the proof set!

Yes, and I highly recommend them! If you check their store you will find the gold plated VC as well. As a matter of fact, both of the coins, silver and gold plated silver, can be purchased through them for less than the cost of the whole proof set! Very good Canadian dealer to business with and if you want to beat their prices you will have to watch ebay items for quite some time to do so! I have bought coins through them since 2002!
