I have just purchased an 1884o Morgan. The question I have is the mint mark is completely filled in. The O is filled in with the silver it was minted in. Never seen anything like this has anyone else?

@seahawk, first welcome to CCF. Second, it sounds like you are describing a broken post on the die. In this case, the (relatively) tall feature that forms the inside of the letter O chips and breaks off so that each subsequent coin that is struck with that die has the metal fill in the space where the die used to be. However, it is always best to have a picture of what you are describing as it could be something else, such as clear glue stuck to the surface of the coin. Here is a link to the tutorial on posting coins:

to the CCF!

It could be a 1884-O VAM-39. Check your coin against the images here http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.c...884-O_VAM-39

Please post pictures when you can. We love to look at coins!
