Not sure what it is or really what to call it. You can see the mound on inside the left hand pillars. Looks to be from the mint but what is it? Just extra metal? Not rolled out properly? Tell me friends. Thank you as always!

Wow, I think you nailed it. I'm not familiar with the 73-D having this issue but it certainly looks to be a similar issue. From reading the breakdown should I assume this is more common than I've encountered?

It is common. I once had a set of 12 in different stages. I let them loose a few years ago.
