Another in my occasional postings of decent quality fake coins. I know how easy it is to say "it's obvious!" and yet when I found this one in a bag yesterday it took me a good 20 seconds to even think about a possible fake.
But when you do think about it the altered date is fairly obvious in a couple ways like spacing and mint mark design, but the actual alteration is pretty well hidden and it would be easy to see this one getting passed off to a beginner coin collector as real.
Yup, a nicely done counterfeit and I do collect them as Grapes does. Still looking for a Henning nickel.
Dave, I am certainly aware of the bat quarter! I'll probably wait until after they start hitting the TPGs and look for the highest graded coin I can find. Not sure how many here know it but I do have a significant collection of coins with bats on them from around the world. Likely the largest such collection in existence. My Avatar is a coin from that collection.
