The metal-detecting "ray gun" registered 78% copper & 21 % nickel. I presume that matches the Argentina 10 centavo planchets?

That seems like a good estimate. Wonder if anyone knows the exact alloy?

Modern U.S. "nickels" are 75% copper/25% nickel. These might be the same or slightly different.

Just yesterday, I received the subject coin, slabbed by NGC. The delay wasn't all NGC's fault. My dealer friend who submitted it was hospitalized and placed in rehab. He's on the mend now.

Here are pics of the slabbed coin, graded XF-40 ....
