I would like to know what is causing the filling in of the spaces between columns on the reverse as well as behind the "ED" in UNITED. The tops of the E and D are also very small. Over polishing can account for the letter size I suppose but not for the fill behind them.

This occurred as a problem back then. Possibly the dies were not hardened/tempered correctly. As far as I know there is no premium for these as they happened on several dies. (reducing the value to face value)

Recurring Die Subsidence error. http://www.error-ref.com/recurring-...dence-error/

I actually got 2 rolls from tropicalbats today, in the mail. It was random. 28 of them have this error in a progression, and I am going to try and figure out if they're from the same die pair or from a different one. I want to post a study about it on here later.
