Almost hate to ask - how much help will insurance be in this situation?
$5000 for the basement.Nothing for the garage or four sheds.

In airtight containers?
No,but they are on the second floor.

Quote:
federal or state funds to help.
I heard there will be some kind of help but not sure if we will qualify.

belongings are salvageable or undamaged.
most stuff in basement was on shelves, the stuff we have to toss was so called "second priority" stuff.

Really sorry to hear of your flood John. I'm sure it makes all of us cringe to think of having to try and deal with something like that. It is a change in temperature that will cause the moisture in the air to condensate on the warm side of the plastic, so be careful in that regard. Sort of like the moisture on the warm side of a window.

One of the things I have done in preparation for previous hurricane seasons is to get bunches of 5 gal buckets with lids (they have neoprene gaskets for an airtight seal). If a hurricane approaches and while the AC is running, to minimize moisture in the air, I put the coins in with a package of desiccant (dehumidifying packets). This way if we lose power for two weeks (again) they stand a chance. I hope I don't have to really test the system though.

Hope things are getting back to somewhat normal for you! Did you have flood insurance?

Glad to see you still posting regularly and hope things are improving.

I do remodeling and know there is no way insurance covers all losses after something like this but hope it took the edge off the sting.

And I hope the outbuildings weren't total losses.

Well so far we filled a 30 yard dumpster and are 80% cleaned up. Going here on a regular basis breaks up the monotony of the clean up.

Glad to hear you've made some good progress in 6 weeks or so.

And really glad you stop by here for "refreshments".

I need to get one of those to. But just because I have to much junk in the basement. Sounds like your making good progress. Don't forget Bleach is your friend. Good luck. Question was this from the darn or 2 Failures?
