First I hope I am not posting too much as I do appreciate the help and advice I am getting here. Below are 2 1883 Liberty nickels. The first one has slight wear but a crack down by the date, and the date is thin on the lower part of the numbers. On the reverse the letters in some of the words are very thin, yet the details in the wreath are very strong and doesn't show wear. The second coin has more wear but the date and the letters on the reverse are far more pronounced. So my question is what happened to the first coin?

Thanks for looking.

My guess is not fully struck. I don't see anything to indicate struck through.
You might also check the weight. Might be an under weight/thin planchet error.
