As a Classical music enthusiast, I had to pick up this coin when I saw it. It is a 1928 2 Schilling coin from Austria commemorating the 100th anniversary of the death of Franz Schubert - one of my favorite composers who was amazingly prolific across his short lifespan. I'd love to see examples of other coins featuring musicians - Classical or otherwise. If you have any in your collection, please share them!

No portrait, but this British 2013 50p coin was issued to commemorate the English composer Benjamin Britten. The reverse has a quotation from Alfred, Lord Tennyson's poem 'The Splendour Falls on Castle Walls', which Britten set to music: Benjamin Britten (1913-76) became famous in the postwar period for his efforts to make Classical music more popular among young people, in an age when jazz and pop were dominating the airwaves. His 'Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra' presents musical instruments in an interesting way, and his one-act operas such as 'Noye's Fludde' were written especially for amateur production and are frequently performed in schools. His enduring legacy is the Aldeburgh Music Festival, held in June since 1948.
